Tim Berners-Lee signaled it about four months ago, now it’s official: W3C Relaunches [its] HTML Activity.

W3C is pleased to invite participation in the new HTML Working Group, chartered to create the next HTML standard […]. “It’s time to revisit the standard and see what we can do to meet the current community needs, and to do so effectively with commitments from browser manufacturers in a visible and open way,” said Tim Berners-Lee, W3C Director. At the same time, W3C is chartering the Forms Working Group, the XHTML 2 Working Group, and rechartering the Hypertext Coordination Group.

What I find more interesting than having it official, hearing calls for participation, and still noticing associated groups […], is the expected target date: Q3, 2010. This is likely to be a huge challenge, taking into account thousands of “opinions” on future HTML.

    First Molly joins the IE team… Now the W3C is opening up the discussions again… what is going on here!!!!?? Why are we moving in the right direction? Very unexpected chain of events going on here. I don’t know what to do… Next we’re going to hear that IE7.5 will be released soon and passes the ACID 2 with flying colors. I’m so lost.
