Java 1.6 and Lynx for Mac OS

Java 1.6 as well as the Lynx text browser appear to be “less available” for Mac OS than for Windows anyway, so here they are again, ready for download and simply for your convenience:
It really took some time to figure out where to get the Java 1.6 (or Java 6) JDK for Mac since Sun doesn’t provide it and Apple apparently removed the Developer Preview from their ADC download site – a colleague finally located the disk image on a Dutch site (whose homepage suggests Java, sure). Please note that there might be problems with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard); I cannot judge proposed solutions yet.
The situation with Lynx was different, but since quite a few sites seem to link the GNU Mac OS X Public Archive which has been unavailable most of the time during the last days, I needed to look for alternatives, one of them being Lynxlet.
However, all files are provided without guarantee. Java and Lynxlet work fine on my machines, but I just cannot assume any liability. I do not offer support, either – you wouldn’t want advice from a Java noob anyway. Thanks for understanding.
Update (February 27, 2008)
The situation apparently changed meaning that Apple offers Java stuff again, and everything’s working fine even with Leopard. For your convenience, I offer current Java 1.6 Developer Preview 9 (DMG, 55,497 KB) for download, too.

A query - I am very grateful that someone has found the Java 1.6 which will work on Tiger, G4. However when I try and install the .pkg, I get an error “Alert: This volume contains a newer version of Java.” I cannot go any further. I do not know how to persuade my Mac to accept this version. any ideas welcome!
Thanks,

Ryan, you’re welcome.
Peter, that is weird … I don’t remember having had such a problem with Mac OS 10.4.x. Unfortunately, I cannot verify it anyway anymore; I hope Google can help with that problem?

The difficulty in finding Java 1.6 illustrates another case of Apple’s poor customer service. Several times I’ve tried to find software and become lost in a labyrinth of circular references between different pages. Their ADC search engine is no help; it provides no reference or hundreds of references. Try finding Xcode 3 if you still have a G4 machine. Then try using the Apple migration program from a G4 iBook to a Mac Air. After hours at home trouble-shooting my wireless network, my local Genius explains that firewire is the only usable network. But the Air has no firewire. And on it goes…
