Internet Explorer 8 Renders Acid2 Correctly

It looks like a great strategic move right after the “Opera incident” but it appears to reflect internal development: Microsoft will succeed in rendering the Acid2 test correctly in Internet Explorer 8, the IE team just announced.
This step alone is not only just right but also a big one, and independent of all the other things that hopefully get implemented in IE 8 as well it probably means some “de-escalation” concerning the EU complaint Opera filed last week – neither do I think that we are in the middle of a new “browser war” nor that this is necessarily going to happen. IE rendering Acid2 looks like a professional measure that will help us all.
Figure: The apparent photo of evidence.
So this just in, guess Microsoft has been in Christmas mood anyway and managed to share some of that spirit. At least, I rarely saw so much enthusiasm on a W3C mailing list as in this case (thanks, Alex). Standards support for everyone!

Yeah yeah yeah - I understand the importance of standards and the big step in the right direction here and fabulous world of accessibility and those that will benefit…but…i don’t understand getting so excited when (fill in the blank) does what they’re SUPPOSE TO DO and get congratulated for it - hahaha! IE8 passing the Acid2 test is like patting a 16 year old on the back that just graduated the 5th grade. I’m baffled!

Nice point, you’re right – Microsoft apparently conditioned us so that we’re already enthusiastic about minor improvements

Interestingly, Markus Mielke had equally great news: Internet Explorer 8 to drop the “hasLayout” concept … We may welcome this step but can certainly be curious about the consequences anyway.
