No Islamophobia

I’m an atheist. You may be, too.

While this has me not believe in and agree with any of the world’s religions, I do respect these religions. You probably do, too.

There’s a hypothesis that in order to distract from one of the greatest crimes of our time, the genocide against the Palestinian people, we will observe an organized push on hate against Muslims, and therefore an increase in Islamophobia. Islamophobia would help justify crimes against entire people.

There’s another hypothesis that this will be used as motivation and for public support for additional attacks and wars against other Muslim countries. This becomes easier with a public that is full of fear, anger, and hate.

I can’t assess the probability for these hypotheses. You may not be able to, either.

But as these are plausible, and as these are dangerous (providing cover for the greatest crimes we know), it seems useful to raise awareness, to be vigilant against coverage that unfairly characterizes Muslims based on the actions of individuals, or that promotes broad generalizations about Islamic communities.

What vaccinates us:

“No” to Islamophobia.

“No” to any hatred—especially as it’s ultimately self-destructive.

Much love.

About Me

Jens Oliver Meiert, on November 9, 2024.

I’m Jens (long: Jens Oliver Meiert), and I’m a web developer, manager, and author. I’ve been working as a technical lead and engineering manager for companies you’ve never heard of and companies you use every day, I’m an occasional contributor to web standards (like HTML, CSS, WCAG), and I write and review books for O’Reilly and Frontend Dogma.

I love trying things, not only in web development and engineering management, but also in other areas like philosophy. Here on meiert.com I share some of my experiences and views. (I value you being critical, interpreting charitably, and giving feedback.)
