On Personal Worth

Post from December 31, 2013, filed under .

The year in activities and cities posts represent the tradition but I deem the following reflections more fitting for the last post of the year. Please have a wonderful start into 2014 everybody.

There is no such thing as worth when it comes to life. No person is worth more than another, and no animal is worth more than another.

Even if we were to put a value on a being: How could worth ever work in terms of growth, purpose, and fulfillment? Yet in more practical terms, what could we ever factor in, and how? Health? Looks? Intelligence? Talents? Possessions? Accomplishments? Some of these factors are hard, others impossible to value.

There is no such thing as worth when it comes to living beings. We’re all worth the same.

Hence, now, though the feeling of unworthiness can appear very real, it is an illusion. One may have been treated as if one were worthless, but that doesn’t make one worthless. There is no such thing as worth, and that gives us all the freedom to but feel worthy.

I’m puzzled and don’t know which one is the more philosophical text. Either your thoughts on value and life or putting it in context of car insurance risk management.

    I second Steffen’s astute comment.
